The 90-Day Roadmap Overview

This roadmap is designed for traders who are serious about prop firm trading and are willing to invest 90 days of disciplined preparation. Most traders who fail challenges do so because they skipped the preparation phase entirely. They saw the prop firm opportunity, paid the challenge fee, and started trading without a tested system. The roadmap below closes that gap.

Days 1-30 — Strategy Development and Testing

Week 1: Choose one instrument and one timeframe. Do not trade multiple instruments or timeframes at this stage. XAUUSD on H1 or EURUSD on H4 are strong starting points because they trend clearly and have abundant historical data. Study the last 6 months of price action on your chosen pair. Mark every significant swing, key level, and structure point.

Week 2: Develop a written strategy with specific entry criteria. Not "I buy when it looks strong." Specific: "I buy when price breaks above a swing high on H1, retests the broken level, and forms a bullish rejection candle with RSI above 50." Every criterion should be testable — either present or not present.

Week 3: Backtest your strategy manually on 3 months of historical data. Record every qualifying setup, entry, stop, target, and result. Do not skip this step. You cannot know your strategy's actual win rate and risk-reward without historical testing.

Week 4: Analyze the backtest results. Calculate win rate, average risk-reward, maximum drawdown, and number of consecutive losses. If the strategy is not profitable in backtest, refine it before moving to live demo trading. If it is profitable, move to the next phase.

Days 31-60 — Demo Trading and Refinement

Weeks 5-6: Open a demo account sized similarly to the prop firm challenge you plan to take. Trade your strategy live in real time, following every rule exactly as you would in a real challenge. Record every trade. The critical insight: live demo trading is harder than backtesting because you do not know where the next candle goes. Emotions appear even on demo.

Weeks 7-8: Review your first month of demo trading. Compare results to backtest. If live performance is significantly worse, identify why — are you entering on criteria not in your plan? Are you moving stops? Are you exiting early? Adjust the rules based on what you observe in live conditions, not in hindsight.

Days 61-90 — Challenge Execution

Week 9: Select your prop firm. Use our comparator to match the firm's rules to your strategy (news trading policy, EA allowance, daily loss structure). Purchase the challenge that matches your account size target.

Week 10: Execute the challenge with the same discipline as your best demo month. Risk 0.5% per trade maximum. Set hard daily loss and profit limits. Stick to your entry criteria exactly.

Weeks 11-12: Complete Phase 1 and Phase 2. Do not rush. The challenge has no time limit — consistency is more important than speed.

After the challenge: You are now a funded trader. Return to the risk management framework. Trade the funded account exactly as you traded your best demo performance. Build from there.

The Tools That Accelerate the Roadmap

AlphaBot Pro is designed to automate the discipline side of this entire roadmap. During demo trading, use it to test your risk rules in real conditions. During the challenge, use it to enforce the rules that are hardest to follow when emotions are high. During the funded account, use it to maintain the consistency that keeps you funded long term.

Our free prop firm comparator covers 50+ firms with current rules, fees, payout splits and trader reviews to help you choose the right firm for your strategy in Week 9 of this roadmap.
